The Science of Life
This guide is about Ayurveda: the Science of Life. 'Ayu' means life and 'Veda' means knowledge. According to Ayurveda 'not being sick', does not know that you are healthy. Health is not merely the absence of disease but a state of complete physical, mental, social and spiritual well being. Follow this guide and learn the foundation on how to live a long and healthy life for you, your family and friends; how to Balance your Body, Nourish your Mind and Awaken your Soul.
Balance your Body
Three people get stressed at work, one has a burnout, one has a heart attack and the other one develops diabetes. Why do three people react different on the same situation?
We are all different. Ayurveda treats everyone as unique.
The Doshas are formed by the 5 elements (earth, water, fire, air and ether) and form a comprehensive system of understanding of:
How we are all different and
what specific foods, exercises and daily routines (Dinacharya) are right for each of us.
Nourish your Mind
Nature functions through conscious forces, represented by 3 primal qualities Gunas (that what makes your personality):
1. Sattva ---> Purity / Knowledge
2. Rajas ---> Action / Passion
3. Tamas ---> Ignorance / Inertia
The 3 Gunas compete with each other for supremacy; one exists by suppressing the others. If Rajas and Tamas are not in balance, they may cause disease. Sattva does not cause disease. A correct understanding of the 3 Gunas is essential to attain peace of mind and your higher self.
Awaken your Soul
When your body is balanced and your mind is nourished you are ready to rise to awaken the soul and reach Advaita, that is oneness and thus compassion towards all. 3 Guiding Powers will help you on this path: Brahma Creative Power, Vishnu Perserving Power and Shiva Destroying (of darkness) Power.
These 3 powers were united as Trimurti in the avatar (incarnation) Dattattreya. He is considered the Adi-Guru, the first teacher of yoga. His pursuit of simple life, kindness to all, sharing of the knowledge and meaning of life inspired many, see the 24 Gurus of Dattatreya. Dattatreya incarnated as Shirdi Sai Baba in 1838 in Jeruzalem, Jaffa Gate.
